In the world of 35mm-format digital SLRs, one could argue that Canon has the line of products that trumps all of them. The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III is another sure-fire hit from the company that would only strengthen the case of those who champion this thinking. It only makes the competition even more distant with their latest improvements.

The Mark III, after all, could have set the benchmark with an astounding 21.1 megapixel count. Such SLR is unheard of and Canon just set the bar too high this time. The 3 inch LCD screen is another welcome inprovement. The scroll wheel houses the Set button that makes this shooter even more handy to use. While this camera may be a tad too heavy for soem, it is a piece of camera masterpiece that offsets those concerns.

Another thing heavy though is the price tag. After all, this series was never known to be for those looking for a cheap fix. However, the great performance as well as the innovative megapixel count is worth it.

Canon, EOS-1Ds Mark III

At 8 megapixels, this shooter is already going to earn rave reviews. The corners are this time rounded and the color choices are also something to be lauded at. It comes in black, silver and pink so take your pick from classy, sexy colors to fashionable. One notable difference is the internal memory. It was decreased slightly to a mere 15MB.

The decent image quality and the responsive speed of the shooter is reason enough to pick up this digital camera. The long lens on this one is another. At least shooting images becomes a rangier experience. Few negatives are found here so this is one pocket camera that is worth owning these days.

With 8 megapixels, this is already a cinch to be prominent in many shooters’ list of must-buy. Also, it weighs in at a light 5.3 ounces. The 8-megapixel camera uses a 35mm-105mm equivalent, f/2.8-5.2 lens. That is for all you technical jargon-seeking readers. It has also included a 9-point autofocus system.

Want more? How about some face detection, the hit nowadays? The Sony Cyber Shot DSC-W90 also has that to its name. The camera also boasts of its lightning quick shooting so that is definitely a big plus. As for the performance, the image quality could launch a thousand ships.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 also has an 8.1-megapixel CCD imaging sensor and a 3x optical, 38mm-114mm f/3.5-f/4.3 Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar zoom lens with optical image stabilization. Not bad at all, huh? Do not fail to remember that it also has face detection, the latest trend nowadays.

Ever heard of Smile Shutter? This one has it. It is actually locating a face and then waiting for that face to smile before snapping a picture once you enter that mode. Pretty neat, huh? This digital camera is definitely an impressive piece of gadgetry.

Finally, a snapshooter targeted to teens like me! Yes, people will now start to think what could be worse. However, judging from how the Fujifilm FinePix Z10fd looks like, it is really strcitly for the teens and people who are still feeling they are adolescents. How could one debate that with the camera’s bright color hues?

The Z10fd includes a 7.2-megapixel CCD sensor, a 3x optical 38mm-to-114mm equivalent f/3.7-to-f/4.2 zoom lens, and a 2.5-inch LCD screen. So basically, one could argue that it is more of like a basic camera that has a teen spirit all over it. Also, the Z10fd includes IR Simple high-speed infrared transmission capability. This feature lets you transfer images from the Z10fd to another IR Simple device. What could be a downer though, is that device is not that simple to find these days.

The problems that plague the Fujifilm FinePix Z10fd are quite annoying. First off is the price tag that is not reasonable given the other problems. That would be the image quality that leaves plenty to be desired and the lens distortion that could be too much to bear.

Smaller could be better. That could very well summarize what the people of Panasonic must be marketing with in regard to their latest in the Lumix line. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 still maintains the stability that has long been associated with the Lumix brand but now comes in a smaller and definitely more compact body. Yes, it has done away with the long zoom. Thus, the camera has a total depth of 1.75 inches.

The LX2 is unique in some ways. It has a 4224 x 2376 pixels stills with a wide-screen (16:9) aspect ratio. It also has an HD format, 2.8-inch wide-screen LCD, and 2 buttons that control the flash. Among others, it has aperture-priority, shutter-priority, full-manual shooting modes and 18 additional shooting modes.

The picture quality is still sharp, testament to its long-standing name. The exposures are also highly accurate. However, it comes at quite a hefty price which betrays it.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2, HD, LCD

The Canon PowerShot A460 is somewhat a diversion. It is an inexpensive product compared to many others. This is a 5-megapixel camera and also offers a 4X optical zoom. It starts up rather quick – 2 seconds to be exact. It has an eye-level viewfinder and a bright 2-inch LCD screen. WHile it has eight scene modes, it is quite disappointing to find out it does not have an action mode.

Also included is a CD that features such staples like ZoomBrowser and PhotoStitch. Notably missing from the A460 is a separate zoom control. Another flaw is teh images seem to have some noise in it.

The Casio Exilim EX-S880 is the next product after the Exilim series of casio started unfurling. Checking in at a so lithe 5.1 ounces, it is clearly setting the bar for a lot of superslim cameras in the market and in the development areas. Moreover, The EX-S880 features an 8-megapixel CCD sensor and Casio’s new Exilim Engine 2.0 image processor. It also maintains soem of its predecessor’s features, like the 35mm-to-114mm-equivalent, f/2.7-to f/5.2, 3x optical zoom lens. It has a quick performance that is admirable, so to speak.

However, it should be noted that it is not much of an improvement as a successor. In fact, the more it stays the same in this case. Also, the image quality is downright soft at so many levels.

Casio Exilim EX-S880

The Nikon Coolpix L11 is a budget camera. It does not offer any new state-of-the-art technological feature. Nothing extraordinary here, folks. The looks are barely regular. However, simplicity may be its number one beauty. Its control scheme that features a large joypad coupled with large buttons makes it comfy for practically everybody.

The Coolpix L11 is a 6 megapixel camera with a 2.4 inch LCD screen. Still, it delivers in image quality. Reviews mostly pointed out that it is virtually distortion-free. The only flaw it may have is it lacks any manual control to give you a free rein. Maybe you should not dismiss budget cams after all.

The Kodak EasyShare C653, unfortunately, fails to live up to these expectations. Actually, it does not live up to low ones either. While the price is low by today’s standards, thus making it affordable, it comes short in many departments. First off, the design leaves too much to be desired. It is thick, chunky and really ugly to put it mildly. Did we even mention it weighs in at a bulky 6.9 ounces. Moreover, the image quality, while not really atrocious, is still disappointing, short of mentioning it is not exactly Kodak-quality.

In short, cross this out of your list.
