Atrocious. Unbearable. Mediocre. Bad. poor. There are a lot of adjectives and superlatives to go with it to describe gadgets that, in a nutshell, sucked. It is quite simple really. Some gadgets have it, others are just plain bad. Let us now take a look at those that really missed the point last year. For now, we focus on an MP3 player that was terrible.

The Coby MP-C7092 is quite misleading actually. It looks kind of a usable gadget. It does not strike us as something that is going to be off the shelves quickly but it seemed okay. People might actually like it. That is a big mistake. In fact, the only thing you could say that did not go wrong is the design.

First, teh sound quality. Try listening to a song, any song and you would only hear it from one side of the earphone. Yes, it has no stereo capability. Add to that the interface that was simply missing the point. It was complicated and lacked the basic necessities needed. They achieved that impossible feat. The volume control was also hard to configure. Avoid this, unless you are way too patient.

The iPod and the iPhone were two of the reasons why Apple became a major force once more. Now, 2007 was said to be all about the iPhone that people easily dismissed the other product that was really good in Apple. This MP3 player is not just a stripped down version of the iPod. It is simply good.

The Apple iPod Touch comes in 8GB and 16GB. At 4.3 inches by 2.4 inches by 0.31 inch, it certainly is a miniature design. Still, it maintains the scratch-resistant glass that users found in he iPhone, as well as the all-metal-and-glass design that this iPod sports. Thus, it looks as an expensive gadget.

Most of all, the Apple iPod Touch has a large, video-worthy screen. Lest we forget, a cutting-edge interface and Wi-Fi Internet and music download capabilities that it has and surely, this one has the touch of success.

The Samsung T10 is a 4GB digital player that is more intriguing for the extra features that do not exactly have to do with music. It is a multifunctional device that incorporates lots of wireless features. It comes in five different colors: black, green, purple, white and red. The design is that of a high-gloss finish and a 2-inch screen. Also, it is quite sleek with measurements of 3.8Â x 1.6Â x 0.3 inches.

The T10 has a proprietary dock connector but no dedicated volume controls. Music is MP3 and WMA files only, though. The T10 offers certain features such as JPEG viewer, and video playback. It also has video recording, FM tuner, integrated stereo Bluetooth and Datacasts support.

Some complaints are the touchpad of the Samsung T10 requires precision for desired results, and there’s no elegant handling of podcasts. In addition, video support is quite limited. Plus, the price could be an issue to some, especially those concerned with audio quality.

Creative is one of the more recognizable names in the MP3 player market. This could be attributed to their reputation of making MP3 players that have a good sound quality, which should be the chief concern of every manufacturer. With their latest venture, the Creative Zen V Plus, it aims to continue such storied line and more.

Zen V Plus comes in 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB capacities. That already gives consumers lots of choices. In addition, it also boasts of quality features, including a voice recorder, a line-in jack, a 1.5-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen, video and has an FM tuner. Although, it should be noted that the video quality is a bit of a disappointment to many.

Another problem that could be encountered is the speed of synching. It may take you several minutes to do so. Also, accessories are quite few. Still, it is a notable MP3 player that could challenge those in the market already.

The Gigabeat U was also able to maintain one of the manufacturer’s reputed elements in its construction. The metal in the front and the back offers an elegance like no other. The 2GB is for music storage that supports the MP3, WMA and WAV formats. Also, it is able to feature a JPEG photo viewer, radio recording, FM radio and line-input recording. The soud quality is at par with most players out there in the market, with such a smooth quality in it. That being said, it has an awful headphone amplifiers going against it.

Other features include FM tuner capability as well as voice recording. Of course, it also comes with flaws to go with its affordable price tag. It’s sound quality is passable at best and it is as basic as the come. Still, it is worthy of being inexpensive without exactly being downright ugly.

The RCA Opal steps up to the plate to try to hit a home run for all of us craving for a cheap but thoroughly useful MP3 player.
