Awesome Storage Area Network

I was trying to look for a storage area network for personal use at home but then I came across this beast and this is mindblowing.

On a 4U rackspace, you can actually fit in 42 drives and if you use 3TB drives, that would translate to 126TB. Hmm… it would take me years to fill up that space. But definitely this is good for mid size companies that have entrerprise data. TAt home, I definitely don’t need such data storage systems but during my work before, when I was in charge of our data center, that’s perfect for it.

I haven’t been actively researching for enterprise wide data storage systems so when I came across Nexan’s products, I was like blown away. I didn’t know storage systems has evolved so much over the past few years.

About 7 years ago, when I was still working in the industry, most of the drives are those RAID5 with a couple of GB of data is the norm. So just imagine how surprised I am seeing 4U size products that can handle 126 TerraBytes of data. That’s awesome.

Also, before it used to be so complicated to setup these data storage systems. I remember playing around with partitions, combining disks, mirroring, setting up RAID, but now it looks like there’s some cool wizard that let’s you configure these things. Moreover, there’s this power saving technology. Nobody was thinking about saving power a few years back, but now, that’s one of the important considerations when choosing these data center devices.

For those who ride motorcycles for leisure, like if you own a Harley Davidson, it’s nice to listen to music while driving along the countryside having a great time with you and your most precious vehicle. It’s important to have something that fits you well as well as it doesn’t mess around with your helmet.

Earphones are sometimes good but some people like this Boom Audio half helmet type (see photo above) which I found in the harley davidson accessories section of surdyke.com. It reduces wind noise, and you can still hear surrounding traffic.

I think headsets are a necessity for bikers who have GPS navigation systems installed. With a lot of wind noise, you can’t possibly hear anything from your GPS unit so better have some headset or earphones to plug into your GPS.

There’s also a variation of the Boom Audio headset where there’s a microphone. That one costs around $120 in Amazon. But if you don’t need that, I think the headset is cool at $67.54 in surdyke.

Hewlett Packard could never be blamed for mailing it in when it comes to going green. In an effort to show they are dead serious in their strategy to do their part in making the planet a cleaner and greener place, they have made a conscious effort in regard to used inkjet cartridges.

HP has a new process that manufactures new cartridges from recycled cartridges that are separated and rebuilt from scratch. Called the “closed loop” process, it is said to give used HP inkjet cartridges a sustainable end-of-life value and puts the material back to good use while being environmentally friendly. This, according to representatives from the company based on various news reports.

With Apple’s famous, or infamous depending on where you stand from a technological standpoint, iPod has arguably controlled the market of music players. It has even evolved to become part of pop culture. It is a phenomenon that has somehow outlived the hype. A rarity in this side of gadgetry.

One company is out to show that speed really matters. They are talking about a fast and furious microprocessor for your computer. IBM is set to launch a microprocessor so fast, it makes the competition eat its dust.

IBM recently launched Power6, which is probably a misnomer since the product boasts speed, not brute force. However, this microprocessor is so fast, executives of the company note that it can actually download the whole iTunes catalogue real easy. Like 1 minute fast.

Yes!� A zooming 60 seconds and every song imaginable would be accessible to you! That is one performance measurement they are showing the public to prove their product is actually the new standard out there.

Another aspect of the Power6 that they are bragging about is the Live Partition Mobility function. What it actually does is it allows you to go from one Unix server to another without compromising your availability. Now, that function is currently in beta.

Another interesting feature: it can operate on even low voltages.

Marantz VP11S1 Projector

Marantz VP11S1 is the most elegance, high-functional and not so ordinary projector. Giving two colours design black and white, though the black one was used as their original model with an easy access controller and keypads that give easy navigation is definitely a plus. Marantz VP11S1 uses a single 1080 pixels resolution DLP chip, for full arrays that has approximately 1920×1080 pixels, as oppose in using what they called wobulation.

You can even control the colour temperature for better performance, which supports normal and economy modes for the lamp. For the connectivity you can just simply plug-in 15-pin VGA input that is commonly use on hooking into computer, one S-video input, component video input and an RS-232 control port.

When it comes to performance Marantz VP11S1 will not let you left behind the clarity is perfect especially when you connected a good source like HD-DVD or high-def from sources such as cable TV or satellite provider. The lens of VP11S1 delivers lesser chromatic effects than anything else. So if you are looking for something to spend off with your money, I will suggest to take this on your list and I will guarantee that you won’t regret it.

Fish in Toilet Tank?

Did you know that not only kitchenware or technology innovates? Even on toilet it does! This is so funny, probably if I have this one at home, I will stay most of the time on “John” or “Comfort Room” or “Rest Room” or whatever they callled it, because of this funny toilet bowl� called “Fish N’ Flush” where there is an aquarium in the tank, wondering how they get there? they divided the tank into two parts, the half side is filled with true fish and aquariumm,� the half is where they filled with water to be flushed away.
