This is one personal computer that makes gaming even better without taking a whole lot of your hard earned cash. Simply put, it has a reasonable price tag, a testament maybe to the company’s willingness to play possum for now. It boasts of a 2.3GHz AMD Phenom 9600 and 512MB Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT. This combination makes the FX7020 a force to reckon with in the gaming department.

Asus had a very successful and robust 2007 and part of that huge roll was the Asus Eee. The tablet PC was coming off the shelves so fast there was a clamor for more on its initial week alone. Of course, like any successful manufacturer would do, Asus would give more Eee for people who have been hankering for more.

The company is expanding its low-budget Eee PC range with three new models. Moreover, the initial plan is the first machine to be launched by the Taiwanese manufacturer will be the E-DT, a desktop PC. From a tablet PC, they are now gearing up towards something bigger. The success of Eee may rub off to other divisions as well.

Also, it may intially run on the Celeron platform. However, it would later on be running on Intel’s latest platform, the Shelton. Later on, the E-DT would be followed by the all-in-one PC/screen called the E-Monitor. Sounds liek an exciting 2008 for Eee fans.

Eee PCs are said to be expected to sell as many as 400,000 units by the end of this year and maybe more by next year. That figure is said to go as high as 3.8 million units by that period. By then, other manufacturers could be developing their answer to the Eee. With the popularity of the product, it cannot be argued that it is definitely one of the more succesful stories of this year in the tech biz.

The Eee PC weighs less than a kilogram, has a 7-inch LCD screen and can connect to the Internet wirelessly. The size and the cost of the Eee have been regarded as the chief reasons why it has gone over to the buying public so well.

The XPS One from Dell is a system with few pieces. However, just imagine these: a widescreen display, a mouse and a keyboard. That is it. You may wonder where all of the processes of the CPU are made. Well, they are all inside the display. Clever, huh? It is a 20-inch display screen that is not just an ordinary monitor, it is also the CPU.

It comes in four designs to cater to different markets: the Essential One, the Music One, the Performance One and the Entertainment One. The product is currenty being pre-sold on the company’s website.

Last week, tech titans Microsoft Corp. made an announcement that temporarily made it all stop and take notice. They announced at a conference that it has started shipping its System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 software. What is its relevance, exactly? Well, the Data Protection Manager backup software is a component of Microsoft’s System Center family of management products, providing recovery from disk and archive to tape in Microsoft environments. Moreover, this also improves support for Microsoft’s Exchange messaging software, SQL Server database, and the Sharepoint Portal Sever collaboration and content management technology.

Sounds useful right now. Hopefully, it does deliver the goods. After all, we need something to protect us.

Hold off the goodbyes first. In fact, it seems the Apple Mac is still going through its good years. That is, if we were to trust the latest figures. Market research firm IDC published a report last week which showed Apple’s hardware shipments for the third quarter increased over the same time frame last year. It was enough to catapult Apple to third place in the United States just behind Dell and Hewlett-Packard. Also, it placed ahead of Toshiba and Gateway, two other strong computer hardware companies.

So, to the naysayers, Apple Mac is still alive and quite kicking.

The number of PCs shipped worldwide was 66.85 million, a 15.5 percent increase. The jump was said to be an effect of a strong demand for portable computers, including laptops. HP shipped 13.1 million PCs worldwide in the aforementioned time frame, a 19.6 percent market share and a 33 percent increase. Dell was not far behind in second place, selling 10.18 million units, quite an increase over the previous year, the survey said. Rounding out the top five were Lenovo, Acer and Toshiba.

The survey covered desktops, notebooks and ultraportables. It did not cover mobile technology.

With all the things happening in this world, it is no surprise that we Earthlings have been paranoid a lot lately. Of course, who would not be with disasters left and right? Who could blame it, we have been particularly ornery regarding the environment.

Hope springs eternal though. People have been doing their part in saving the world. You could add another tech company to the growing list of volunteers. Cranberry has recently developed an energy-efficient computer. This one, they say, offers businesses a greener alternative to the conventional desktop PC. That is definitely music to the ears of many environmental groups all over the world.

The Cranberry SC20 Smart Client (that is the name) is small, no bigger than a paperback book, and uses only ten percent of the electricity of the usual personal computer.

Gateway, once a leader but currently trying to inch its way back to supremacy, is priming up for its newest Windows PC. A successor to its Profile series, the new Windows PC dubbed Gateway One is set for release this November. It is touted to have an all-in-one design that the company hopes will shore up its sales that could rival its competitors, particularly Apple Corp.

The Gateway One features a 19-inch widescreen LCD display, wireless keyboard and a mouse. The PC is designed to be able to work with a minimum of visible wires, USB and Ethernet interfaces connect to the computer through the same brick that carries power, using only one cable. The Gateway One also comes equipped with a built-in webcam, 802.11n wireless networking, Intel Core 2 Duo processor and stereo speakers integrated into the front panel. Also, it is said to be featuring an Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 dual-core processor, Intel GMA X3100 graphics and a 320 GB hard disk.
