A recent survey showed that Hewlett-Packard Co. is still the top seller of personal computers in the whole wide world. This is further evidence that the company maintained its lead as the world’s largest PC supplier in the third quarter of 2007, extending the lead it set last year, market researcher IDC last week. Coming in second was Dell.
The number of PCs shipped worldwide was 66.85 million, a 15.5 percent increase. The jump was said to be an effect of a strong demand for portable computers, including laptops. HP shipped 13.1 million PCs worldwide in the aforementioned time frame, a 19.6 percent market share and a 33 percent increase. Dell was not far behind in second place, selling 10.18 million units, quite an increase over the previous year, the survey said. Rounding out the top five were Lenovo, Acer and Toshiba.
The survey covered desktops, notebooks and ultraportables. It did not cover mobile technology.
