Hitachi Global Storage Technologies is clearly front and center regarding hard drive news nowadays. They are sure trying to position themselves as the new innovators in regards to computer hard drives. After all, they have unleashed a product that people have only dreamed about. Then again, such product becomes a neccessity with the improvements made and the normal capacity is no longer satisfactory.
The company has reportedly developed technology that will quadruple the storage capacity of desktop hard drives within the next two years. That way, computers could attain a capacity of 4TB of storage while laptop storage could reach 1TB, according to the company. The company hopes to implement the technology in hard drives in 2009. The technology used is the CPP-GMRÂ which will enable the density of disk storage surfaces to increase to 500G bits per square inch or more in the near future.
