Ever wished you could access your files without having to switch on your computer, or any computer for that matter? Well, personally, I have not. Still, that did not stop others from turning such a dream into a realistic achievement of sorts. Somehow, there are people too lazy to switch on a personal computer. All they need is a flash drive.

A new FlashMate hybrid hard drive technology has been introduced that allows data to be read, even when the computer is switched off. This enables laptop users to access content on the hard disk drive, without having to turn on the computer, in order for, among other things, to listen to MP3 files, view digital pictures, access email, and a whole lot more of other tasks you used to do after the arduous task of switching the computer’s power on.

The technology was developed by SST (Silicon Storage Technology) and Insyde Software.
