Sharp is going to aim to be a bigger player in the market by making the slimmest of LCD televison sets. The sets are just 3.44 centimeters at their thinnest point and that size increases slightly to 3.85 centimeters at the thickest point. That is just about as thin as an LCD TV could get.
While being in the business of making the biggest tv screens the past few years, the company is now focusing on a new goal as to attract more consumers. It has indicated that Sharp is doing this by designing thinner backlights. That would be the light source that sits behind the LCD panel in the set.
Sharp’s new X-series models come in 37-, 42- and 46-inch screen sizes and go on sale in Japan on March 1. Afterwards, we could expect a whole lot of their competitors to follow suit and try to coem up with the thinnest version yet.
