Sony made a lot of changes to an otherwise successful digital camera in the H5. This time, they have released the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H9 and it is clearly one of the more top-of-the-line models that the company currently possess. A quick look at the H9 would show that the changes have focused mainly to target the megazoom frenzy.

First off, the batteries. No longer would you find the AA batteries useful in this camera. What you would rely on instead is the “proprietary lithium ion”. Other changes include the following:

1) The resolution is now way higher. from 7 megapixels to 8 megapixels.

2) A longer lens range of 15x.

3) A 9-point AF.

4) Nightshot function

5) An auto-contrast setting called D-range optimization.

6) Maximum sensitivity (ISO 3200)

7) HDTV video output.

The strengths of the H9 could be utilized if you are outdoors and shoot from parks and sports events. Speaking of sports, it has a feature called Sports mode that enables you to have a fast shutter speed and continuous autofocus. Another new feature that is quite enticing is the Face detection mode.

So for those who love the great outdoors more, the H9 is probably a great choice for you.
