Tech-Heavy Olympics

Sports are not exactly one of the priorities of many tech whizzes all over the world. You know the common stereotype: Geeks do not get involved in physical activities. So, with that in mind, it is kind of intriguing to talk about next year’s Summer Olympics here in Gadget Metro. However, you would be surprised by just how much technologically savvy that sports event could be in 2008.

It has been given coverage that testing has been underway for the said event. The price tag for information technology and communications at the world’s biggest sporting event will run to around $400 million and use the know-how and sound analyses of thousands of IT managers and engineers. Testing is known to be a key component to the success of the IT systems during the games. Each sport, from the oldest to the latest is allocated its own set of IT gear, and each of those systems will be tested between now and the start of the games.

Atos Origin SA, the same company that has been tasked with this monumental responsibility before, will oversee it once more.
