With the recent unveiling of MacBook Air, it is but consequential that competitors line up to give it a rival. One day, someone would step up to the plate to let loose a laptop that is ultraportable and would challenge the Air to almost every aspect. That day might just have arrived recently.

The Toshiba Portege R500-S5003 is going to be compared to that laptop for a lot of reasons and most of them are quite valid. First off, it is absolutely thin and lithe. Talk about a laptop weighing in at 1.7 pounds. It also offers 64GB modules. It has a solid state drive. Its 12.1 inch display also has a 1280 x 800 resolution. It has a matte screen.

It is a bit too expensive for many people. The price tag, however, would be the least of your concerns as this Portege brings a lot to the table. It has its share of flaws, particularly the battery life, but what is impressive is despite all that, it could still lay claim to the throne.
