Gateway, the reputed Irvine, California-based company is making news these days. This time, it is not a good one, at least in the point of view of the company or the people who purchased certain products. See, they are recalling about 14,000 laptop battery packs that were distributed and sold during a three-month period in 2003.

What seems to be the trouble? Well, it looks like they are a bit faulty. So faulty that they are coalescing with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (U.S. CPSC) to replace the products for FREE! Apparently, the batteries, which are lithium-ion based, can actually overheat and, even more problematic, may eventually cause a fire to break out. Of course, a disclaimer by Gateway issues that the internal battery cell is not defective. Yes, thanks a lot! We feel safer now.

The laptop models that are affected by Gateway’s recall are the 400VTX and the 450ROG . he company states that they were sold around May and August 2003.
