Whee For Eee

Some names could just make you scratch your heads. After all, if a product has a name that sounds like a shrill or a shriek from a child, it kind of takes away a lot of things. Of course, do not judge a book by its cover, as what the old adage would have us believe. After all, it is just a name. At least a lot of people did not mind this product’s name. No, not at all.

In Taipei, the hottest product there right now is Asustek Computer Inc.’s brand new low cost laptop. The Eee PC, as they fondly branded it, sold like pancakes and almost vanished early from stores in its first day alone. The Eee PC is a low-cost laptop designed for children and also to emerging markets. It weighs less than one kilogram and has a 7-inch LCD screen. Asustek suggested a retail price of NT$11,100 ($340) for the device. It included a built-in camera, speakers, a microphone, 512M bytes of DDR2 DRAM and a 4GB flash drive.Â
